Man ends hunger strike at Wake County Jail

RALEIGH

Uriel Alberto said he decided to end his strike because his mother is worried about his health.

The 24 year old said he believed he could have gone another ten days without eating and was ready to go longer to get people to see his side of the immigration debate.

Alberto, who is from Mexico, doesn't want to go back.

"I didn't ask to come here," said Alberto. "I didn't choose to come here but I'm here and I'm trying to make the best of my situation"

At last check, Alberto remained in jail. He is expected to go before an immigration judge in Charlotte on Thursday.
