The North Carolina High School Athletic Association rejected Green Hope and Panther Creek's appeal to remain in the Tri-Nine conference. Instead, the two schools will join the Piedmont Athletic Conference in the fall of 2013.
Opponents of the move cited a negative impact to funding of athletic programs once the schools left their current conference.
Parents and athletes were also concerned that some programs will not survive the conference change.
