The Wake County Sheriff's Office arrested 29-year-old Yesenia Alvarez on Friday after they received a report that she burned her 11-year-old child.
According an arrest warrant, the child suffered second-degree burns to their hands. It is unclear if the child is a girl or boy and how they were burned.
Authorities have charged Alvarez with child abuse. She is currently being held under a $25,000 bond.
The U.S. Immigrations and Customs Enforcement has also placed a detainer on Alvarez.
