Man charged with setting fire to mobile homes

SPRING LAKE, N.C.

Officials said 26-year old John Patrick Walker allegedly used a can of sunscreen and a lighter to set fire to yard debris underneath a vacant home on Dimmagio Drive March 13.

Three days later, Walker allegedly used the same method to set fire to yard debris underneath another vacant home, this time on Presidio Lane.

On March 23, Walker allegedly targeted a home on Britania Street.  Walker entered the unlocked door of the vacant residence and set fire to a couch inside.

All three of the homes were destroyed in the fires. Each home was within 150 feet of Walker's own front door.  He is charged with three counts of burning certain buildings and one count of breaking and entering.

Walker is being held in the Cumberland County Detention Center under a $20,000 secured bond.  He will make a first court appearance on March 26.
