A Benson woman and her dog are looking for a place to stay after flames engulfed their home early Tuesday morning.

Just after midnight, authorities received a call about a fire at a home on Creekstone Drive.

The homeowner said she was lying in bed when she smelled smoke and noticed the house was on fire. She and her dog managed to escape unharmed.

When fire crews arrived, they had trouble getting water to the house, because there were no hydrants in the subdivision. Crews had to bring in trucks of water from 15 miles away in order to get the blaze under control.

The fire destroyed the home and caused a car in a nearby driveway to explode.

Johnston County fire marshals are investigating, but they said they do not believe it is suspicious.

The Red Cross has been contacted to help the displaced woman.
