Warrant: Alleged robber ID'd by mom

RALEIGH

Van David Kalcevic, 21, is charged with robbing the BB&T bank in Beaver Creek Commons March 29. Investigators said he rode a bicycle to the holdup and then stole a teller's pickup truck to make his getaway.

After the robbery, police and the FBI served a search warrant on Kalcevic's apartment on University Woods Road in Raleigh.

According to the warrant, Kalcevic was already in custody on unrelated charges after he allegedly threatened and pointed a gun at his roommates. Investigators learned he was training to be a Navy SEAL and had firearms and a bulletproof vest.

The warrant also says Kalcevic spoke with his mother after the robbery and told he was "in it deep" and had robbed a bank.

Detectives said they showed her surveillance photos from the bank and she identified her son - saying he had similar clothing and she recognized him from the way he was standing.

The warrant says investigators collected a Glock pistol and other items during their search.

Kalcevic is charged with two counts of robbery and six counts of second-degree kidnapping.
