Oxford fire chief arrested for DWI

Oxford fire chief Earnest Bess was arrested and charged with DWI early Saturday morning, according to Oxford police.

Bess was pulled over in his personal vehicle around 2 a.m. His blood alcohol content was .21 percent. The legal limit in North Carolina is .08.

His license was revoked following the arrest, and his bond was set at $1,000.

Bess is expected to appear in a hearing July 2.

Bess has been Oxford's fire chief since Aug. 2010.
