Man charged in apartment hostage stabbing

CARY, N.C.

On Sunday, arriving officers found a man holding three hostages at the residence, said Major Tony Godwin of the Cary Police Department.

Authorities were able to negotiate the release of the hostages, and one of them, a woman, was injured and taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Shortly before 9 p.m. on Sunday night, the suspect was taken into custody and transported to the hospital for treatment of self-inflicted injuries.

On Tuesday, 30-year-old Jason Greenlee, of Ribbon Lane, was charged with one count of attempted first degree murder and one count of first degree kidnapping.

If convicted, he faces 94 months-to-life without parole in prison for the attempted murder charge and 44-to-210 months for the kidnapping charge.

"Due to the severity of injuries sustained by the victim, the Wake County District Attorney's Office felt that the attempted murder charge was warranted," said Maj. Godwin.

Police have not released the victim's name or current condition.

Greenlee is currently behind held at the Wake County Public Safety Center.
