Four injured in Durham hit-and-run

DURHAM

At least one person was charged in connection with the crash that also injured a three year old and a young mother. In all, four people were hurt in that crash.

It happened just before midnight Wednesday when a pickup truck crashed into the back of a Honda Accord that had stalled at the bottom of the off-ramp from Interstate 85 northbound to North Roxboro Street.

Police said the car had run out of gas. The mother and her two children were inside.

The one year old, who was secured in a car seat, was last listed as critical at Duke Hospital. The mother and the three year old were said to be recovering from minor injuries.

The driver of the pickup, 26-year-old Oscar Jaramillo Perez, and another passenger fled the scene on foot, leaving behind a third person in their car who was injured and had to be taken to the hospital.

Perez was later apprehended by police and charged with driving while impaired and felony hit-and-run.
