Police have charged a U.S. Marine with raping a 12-year-old girl he allegedly met online.

Sgt. Brandon Bowman, 27, was arrested at Fort Bragg where he was taking part in training. Bowman is currently stationed in Huntingdon, England.

According to a spokesperson with the Fayetteville Police Department, officers got a tip about suspicious activity with a child on Shortridge Road on April 29.

When they arrived, they saw the girl emerging from a wooded area on a bicycle. Bowman was also there.

Detectives said their investigation found Bowman met the alleged victim through the internet and arranged to meet her at the location where officers found them.

Bowman is charged with first-degree rape of a child, two counts of first-degree sex offense with a child, and indecent liberties with a child.

Bond was set at more than $2 million.
