Fayetteville man charged with rape

FAYETTEVILLE

Police said they responded to a report of a rape April 7. On the night of the incident, the victim was walking on Yadkin Road to a friend's house. A car did a u-turn and stopped to offer the girl a ride in his car and a chance to get out of the rain. The driver of the car was wearing a security guard uniform and had a firearm in his holster.

Police have identified the driver as 51-year-old William Cummings. Officials said Cummings drove the victim to his house on the 1200 block of Durden Lane.

While at the residence, the victim told police she was sexually assaulted multiple times before Cummings drove her to a friend's home.

Detectives arrested Cummings Thursday and charged him with second-degree rape, first-degree kidnapping, and second-degree sex offense.

In his first court appearance Friday, Cummings was given a $150,000 secured bond.
