The Onslow County Sheriff's Office announced Wednesday that deputies have charged a Jacksonville High School band teacher with having a sexual relationship with a student.

Christopher David Howard, 33, faces three counts of sexual activity with a student by a teacher and four counts of indecent liberties with a student.

Detectives said the student involved is now 17, but they suspect the relationship may have started back in 2007 after a band concert.

They said the investigation began when a deputy found Howard together with the student in a parked vehicle at a local park.

Bond was set at $25,000.
