Emergency crews responded to a home on Applewhite Road in Archer Lodge around 2:30 p.m. The 15-month-old female was found unresponsive in the swimming pool and rushed to WakeMed in Raleigh.
The child, whose name was not released, died after arriving at the hospital.
As standard procedure, the Johnston County Sheriff's Office has assigned a detective to investigate the incident.
