A Raleigh man was killed early Saturday morning after a high speed chase in Johnston County.

Troopers told ABC11 that 40-year-old Brian Bennett was speeding on Highway 242 near Benson and passed a Johnston County deputy. The deputy tried to stop Bennett, but he wouldn't pull over.

Officials said Bennett ran into a ditch on Highway 242 near NC50, but was able to continue driving.

The chase then continued onto I-95 and then onto I-40. Troopers said Bennett lost control of his car on I-40 and ran off the road, flipping the car. He was ejected from the vehicle.

Bennett was taken to Wake Med where he later died, according to officials.

The deputy pursuing Bennett was not involved in the crash.
