Insurance Commissioner Wayne Goodwin said Friday a Durham woman is charged with altering police reports to commit insurance fraud.

Mary Teresa Whitman Few, 43, of Cambridge Road, faces charges of felony insurance fraud, obtaining property by false pretense, and attempting to obtain property by false pretense.

Goodwin said Few submitted an insurance claim to American Bankers Insurance Company of Florida for $3,950 worth of stolen property on Feb. 25. But the insurance company noticed differences between a copy of a police report Few sent and the official report on file with police.

A similar problem was found with another claim that Few allegedly submitted in April 2011 for which Few was paid $9,371.36.

Records show Few posted a $10,000 bond and was released from jail.
