Michael Keon was charged after a traffic stop in Clayton Tuesday night. Officials said he was stopped on Covered Bridge Road around 11:44 p.m., but was not involved in any traffic accident.
Keon has been employed with the Raleigh Police Department since Jan. 2000, and currently remains employed with the city. Officials said there are no other changes at this time in terms of his employment, nor was there any information available in terms of repercussions.
Keon was released on a $2,500 bond and has an Oct. 1 court date.
