Wife charged in husband's decade-old murder

MOORE COUNTY, N.C.

On Dec. 29, 2002, 46-year-old Scott Rovnak, of Aberdeen, was shot and killed inside his home.

Investigators listed his wife, Melissa Rovnak, as a suspect in the homicide.

Melissa had taken her three children to her family's home in West Virginia on Dec. 26, 2002 and returned to the Aberdeen home on the day Scott was murdered.

For the past ten years, the investigation has been ongoing. On June 18, 2012, Moore County officials traveled to West Virginia with warrants to arrest Melissa. Melissa did not waive extradition from West Virginia to North Carolina. The Moore County District Attorney's Office obtained a Governors Warrant that ordered her back to North Carolina.

On Friday, officials traveled back to West Virginia for a hearing on the Governor's warrant. The judge ordered Melissa back to Moore County. She was taken to the Moore County Sheriff's Office and charged with the homicide of Scott Rovnak.

Her first court appearance is set for Sept. 4. She is being held without bond.
