Police investigate Southern Pines shootings

SOUTHERN PINES, N.C.

Officials said three people were shot in two separate shootings around 10:23 p.m.

The first shooting happened at a home in the 400 block of Ridgewood Drive, according to police. Officials arrived at the scene to find two people had been shot.

They were later identified as 23-year-old Derrick Devontae Harris and 47-year-old Gregory Gerard Stancil. Both victims lived at the home where the shooting took place.

Shortly after the first shooting, officers were dispatched to another shooting in the Greenmont Apartments. Officers found Emmanual Zechariah Johnson, another shooting victim, on Dean Avenue.

Investigators said all three victims were involved in an altercation at the home on Ridgewood Drive. The victims told police that three suspects approached them and a fight ensued, causing the armed suspect to begin firing.

The suspects are described as black males wearing all black clothing with black face masks. One suspect had a silver-colored revolver.

All three victims were airlifted to various hospitals.

Police said at least three assailants were seen leaving the shooting on Dean Avenue wearing dark clothing.
