John Mark Legg III, 29, of Carthage Street, Sanford was booked on a murder charge Sunday.
Detectives said Legg and 31-year-old Lee Aaron Matthews were involved in the stabbing of 20-year-old Paul David Johnson Jr., of Sanford, in an altercation at the Prince Downtown Motel in Sanford on September 24.
Nineteen-year-old Angel Ann Kersey, of Lillington, was also stabbed in the chest.
Johnson later died at Central Carolina Hospital.
Investigators said Legg was also injured in the altercation. He was charged after he was released from UNC Hospital in Chapel Hill.
