To be acknowledged by the government, the new secession movement would need 25,000 signatures in a month. The one for North Carolina has gathered 6,000 in three days.
North Carolina activist Randy Dye - who posted the North Carolina petition - told us Monday he doesn't have high hopes for the idea of secession - which he supports - but says it's still worth calling attention to the raw feelings behind that idea.
"I'm a realist, probably nothing will come of it, but I want people to be aware that this feeling is out there. No one is calling anyone to go to arms or anything, but this is how frustrated we are with our government and politics," said Dye.
