ECU's AD is stepping down, taking new role

GREENVILLE, N.C.

On Wednesday, the university announced Terry Holland would move into an athletics director emeritus role, once a successor is in place.

Holland, who has served as athletics director at ECU since 2004, requested the change in his role.

Holland will continue to report directly to Chancellor Steve Ballard through 2014, as stated in his current contract.

The university also announced that its Olympic Sports Complex will be named the Terry Holland Olympic Sports Complex.

The changes come less than a month after Holland led ECU's football team to the Big East conference.

He was quoted at the time as saying East Carolina's next step was to find an "equally exciting and competitive environment for the 18 sports other than football." The other 18 teams are seeking a competitive environment before leaving Conference USA on June 30, 2014.

In the meantime, Holland's new soon-to-be responsibilities will focus on development activities, while assisting the next director of athletics.

Before becoming athletics director at ECU, Holland served as athletics director at the University of Virginia and Davidson College. Holland was also the head men's basketball coach at both schools during the 60s, 70s and 80s.
