Fayetteville meets police chief candidates

FAYETTEVILLE

Harold Medlock, deputy chief of Charlotte-Mecklenburg, and Malik Aziz, deputy chief in Dallas Texas, spoke with residents at two community meetings.

City Manager Ted Voorhees narrowed the list of 131 initial applicants down to the pair. He's looking to replace Tom Bergamine, who retired as police chief in July.

Bergamine took over as chief in April 2007, replacing Tom McCarthy, who retired earlier that year. He has served the department for more than three decades - beginning as a patrol officer and working his way up.

Fayetteville has nearly 400 police officers and over a hundred civilian workers.
