Many Chicagoans are heading to Washington to take part in President Barack Obama's second inauguration. The South Shore Drill Team was chosen to perform, and members say they planned to represent the president's hometown with pride.
Other travelers include a group of constituents who were taking a train to Washington led by Congressman Danny Davis.
Others are marking the occasion by doing good works in the Chicago area on what is being called a national day of service. Events are taking place Saturday in every state to honor Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
In Chicago, volunteers were scheduled to gather at Sexton Elementary School on the South Side with Illinois Gov. Pat Quinn to contribute their services.
Sunday, Quinn will head to Washington for the inauguration festivities, which will continue on Monday. A week of festivities will include the presidential swearing-in ceremony, inaugural address, inaugural parade and numerous balls and galas honoring Mr. Obama.
