Suspect shot by Wilson County deputy

January 29, 2013 8:17:25 PM PST
A Wilson County Sheriff's spokesperson said a deputy shot a man in the 5800 block of Bottoms Dairy Road in Elm City around 6:20 p.m. Tuesday.

Authorities were called to the home after receiving a call about shots fired at the location.

When deputies arrived, they found 65-year-old Ashby Ellis Silver, Jr. discharging a weapon outside the home.

A deputy returned fire and shot Silver, who suffered non-life threatening injuries. He is now in custody.

The deputies were not injured.

Silver faces three counts of assault on a government official with a firearm and one count of firing off a gun within 300 feet of a residence.

The State Bureau of Investigation is now investigating, which is standard procedure in an officer-involved shooting.
