West Side corner honors late restaurateur Edna Stewart

February 16, 2013 (CHICAGO)

Stewart's restaurant was a favorite of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and other civil rights leaders and celebrities.

Stewart, who passed away in June 2010, ran Edna's Restaurant on the city's West Side for more than 40 years.

Saturday afternoon, an honorary street sign was unveiled in her name at the corner of Madison and Albany.

Stewart helped civil rights leaders by offering her restaurant as a meeting place to them and helping them fight for equal rights.

Stewart's restaurant closed a month after she died.
