Three arrested in undercover drug bust

DURHAM, N.C.

The incident started when undercover officers made a controlled drug buy late Wednesday afternoon. Officers then stopped the suspects in a vehicle near the intersection of Martin Luther King Jr. Parkway and Bay Point Drive.

Police said as officers were attempting to arrest the three suspects, one officer's gun discharged and a possible bullet fragment struck one of the suspects.

The three suspects then drove away and led police on a brief chase until the suspects' vehicle crashed into a car at the intersection of Barbee Road and Uzzle Street. The three suspects jumped out of the vehicle and ran. Officers caught all three after a foot chase.

The suspect injured by the bullet fragment – Jeffrey Hunter, 34, of South Roxboro Street - was treated at the hospital Wednesday night and released.

Hunter was arrested and charged with four counts of trafficking in cocaine, one count of possession of cocaine with the intent to manufacture, sell or deliver and one count of resisting, delaying and obstructing law enforcement officials. He was placed in Durham County Jail under a $500,000 bond.

Jarian Dowdy, 34, of University Drive, and Tony Moore, 25, of Green Lantern Street in Raleigh, were arrested and charged with conspiracy to commit trafficking in cocaine, possession of cocaine with the intent to manufacture, sell or deliver and delaying and obstructing a government official.

Dowdy was also charged with sale and delivery of cocaine and Moore was also charged with felony fleeing from law enforcement officials. Both men were placed in Durham County Jail under $150,000 bonds.

The driver of the vehicle struck by the suspect's car was treated for minor injuries.

The State Bureau of Investigation has been called in to assist with the investigation, which is standard procedure in an officer-involved shooting.
