Roanoke Rapids couple arrested in drug bust

ROANOKE RAPIDS, N.C.

Authorities conducted a traffic stop on Highway 125 in Roanoke Rapids for a motor vehicle violation on Saturday around 8 p.m. when they smelled a strong odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle.

The driver was 23-year-old Marc Anthony Solomon-Cartagena, of Roanoke Rapids.  

During the search of the vehicle officials seized seven Xanax, approximately 15 grams of marijuana, 10 individually wrapped bags of crack cocaine, approximately three grams of powder cocaine, and a digital scale.  

Officials arrested Cartagena for possession with intent to sell and deliver cocaine, felony possession of cocaine, possession with intent to sell and deliver marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia.  Cartagena was given an $8,000 bond.

Officials later searched the home of Soloman-Cartagena on Deer Run Drive in Roanoke Rapids.  After searching the home, agents seized approximately 12 grams of cocaine, approximately 24 grams of marijuana, a glass marijuana pipe, and a digital scale.

Solomon-Cartagena's girlfriend, 21-year-old Keyuna Alston, was at the detention center trying to post Cartagena's bond during the search of the home. She was arrested and charged with felony possession of cocaine, possession of marijuana, maintain dwelling, and possession of drug paraphernalia.  

Cartagena was given an additional $8,000 bond and Alston was given a $10,000 bond.  Both have a May 1 court date.
