Teen shot in Durham

DURHAM

Officers found the teen lying on the side of the road after getting a call about the shooting on Briggs Avenue near Liberty Street around 9:30 p.m. The boy was taken to the hospital with serious injuries.

Investigators say witnesses told them the teen and a friend were walking when a green Cadillac with three people inside pulled up next to them. A person in the car spoke to the victim and a shot was fired.

A description of the vehicle was broadcast on police radio and a Durham County Sheriff's Office deputy spotted it a short time later and tried to stop it on Hardee Street near Liberty Street.

Two people in the car were arrested and a third got out and ran. Officers used a search dog, but were unable to find the man.

Two guns were found in the car.

Tuesday, police said they have charged 30-year-old Shelly Ann Polk - of Cammie Street - and 17-year-old Victor Lavar Brown Jr. - of Hardee Street - with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury. Brown was also charged with resisting a public officer and altering/removing a serial number from a firearm. Polk was also charged with being an accessory after the fact.

Both were placed in the Durham County Jail with $750,000 bonds.
