Funeral for retired boxer shot, killed in Hunting Park

GERMANTOWN - March 18, 2013

Friends, family and colleagues poured into the Holsey Temple CME Church in Germantown Monday to honor Tony Martin.

Martin held the welterweight title during a boxing career that spanned several decades.

He logged 34 wins, six losses and one draw. This was all while he kept his job with the U.S. Postal Service and worked as a clerk in Southwest Philadelphia.

Martin's family says he was the type of landlord who gave a lot of breaks to his renters.

He was also a man with a sense of humor who worked hard to provide for his family.

Someone shot the 52-year-old Martin on Sunday, March 10th outside the home in the 1300 block of West Butler Street he was renting out.

Police are still searching for the gunman.
