People line up for free dental clinic in Cary

CARY, N.C.

Eight dentists, 60 volunteers, and more than $50,000 worth of care, provided free cleaning, fillings and more serious repair work came free of charge. It's all part of the nationwide nonprofit group Dentistry from the Heart's effort to provide oral care at no charge.

The demand was high at Dr. Allan Acton's office.

"Yeah, we had about 120 in front of our office today, and last night we had people who got here about 5 in the evening," said Acton.

Among those in line was Jason Smith. He got in line at 5 a.m. after enduring the pain of a serious toothache.

"Probably about four months now, and it just got to the point where it's just aggravating," said Smith. "So, it's time to get it out."

Besides dental care, those at the clinic also got goodie bags containing dental care items.

The free dental clinic is held once a year.
