Man wants plug pulled on tennis court lights

GARNER, N.C.

"It's very disturbing to have this," he said.

So much light comes into his home from the Creech Road tennis courts, he's literally losing sleep.

"They shine into my bedroom window. They shine into my living room - just the entire front of my house has been lit up by those lights across the road," said Macon.

The court's lights are supposed to be set on a timer system but Macon says the lights come on during random times throughout the night. To make matters worse, the tennis courts have been closed for resurfacing since November.

"Complete waste of electricity," said Macon.

Macon said for a whole month, the lights have come on at 10:05 p.m. every night.

Macon said he's spoken with the Town of Garner about the problem.

"And call the town; they don't wanna do anything about it. I mean it's extremely frustrating, the lights are, but it's extremely frustrating that the town won't do their job," said Macon.

Macon turned to me, and I took his issue to Town of Garner officials. A rep with the town said they're aware of the concerns and have sent personnel to look into the issue, but the lights seemed to be operating properly.  However, the rep added because of the apparent malfunction or breakdown in system, they have disconnected the lights, and will put in a new light timer switch at the courts.  The rep said the lights will be adjusted to shine more on the tennis courts, and the town will also explore other options to keep the light from spilling beyond the tennis area.

Macon told me he now has the town official's attention, and he's happy the bright lights are no longer keeping him up at night.

"Thank you, Diane. I mean, it's been a problem I've been ignored on and now you got the town paying attention," he said

The rep with the Town of Garner apologized for the inconvenience and said it's not the practice of the town to ignore or take citizens concerns lightly.
