Police find weapons in college student's van

ROCKY MOUNT, N.C.

Authorities in Rocky Mount said officers were called to Petteway Hall on Wesleyan College's campus in the early morning hours after 22-year-old Matthew Price was reportedly seen acting in a threatening manner and appeared to be heavily intoxicated.

The Stantonsburg native -- Stantonsburg is about 60 miles east of Raleigh -- was detained while officers searched his room and vehicle. Police said they found several weapons in his van, alcohol in his dorm room, along with racial slurs posted in his room.

Price was charged with three counts of felony possession of firearms on educational property, and one count of possession of a weapon (knife) on educational property.

He has since been released from police custody on a $10,000 unsecured bond. He is not allowed to return to campus.

Although no one was hurt in the incident, officials said they notified the campus and thanked everyone who aided in the situation.

An email to students, faculty and staff, college officials stated that NC Wesleyan College is not at liberty to discuss the details of the incident, which is now part of an ongoing police investigation.

Anyone who may have information about the incident is asked to contact the NCWC Office of Student Affairs at (252) 985-5178.
