Fire sweeps through Fayetteville apartment building

FAYETTEVILLE

Pictures from Chopper 11 showed a gaping hole in the roof of one building where the flames burned through.

Eight units were heavily damaged. The Fayetteville Fire Department said the American Red Cross was working with 16 residents who were forced out by the blaze and need assistance.

One of the residents told ABC11 that she was sitting on her balcony, when she smelled smoke.

"All I know is I was sitting on the balcony. I went downstairs and I saw flames then I started knocking on doors to make sure everybody got out and also to have someone call 911," said Christina Oliver. "I used two extinguishers. I tried to put the fire out myself."

No one was injured.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. It took firefighters about 30 minutes to bring the blaze under control.
