I-40 at NC-55 reopened after seven-car crash

DURHAM

Around 9:30 a.m., authorities said at least seven cars collided in the eastbound lanes of the I-40 bridge over NC-55. It is unclear what caused the accident.

At least three people were transported to the hospital with unknown injuries. Authorities have not released any other details about the incident.

The crash shutdown all three lanes of I-40 east for almost 45 minutes as authorities in Durham worked to clear the scene. The two left lanes of traffic were reopened first, then the right lane and the on-ramp were reopened to traffic by 11:15 a.m.
