Tractor-trailer catches fire along I-40

Traffic was backed up for miles along Interstate 40 in Durham County Wednesday morning after a tractor-trailer caught fire.

It happened just before 8 a.m. near exit 279 at NC-147.

Several westbound lanes of I-40 had to be closed while emergency crews worked to put out the blaze.

Traffic was backed up for miles as authorities tried to clear the area.

It is unclear at this time what sparked the fire and if anyone was injured during the incident.
