Police make arrest in 2012 homicide

RALEIGH

On April 27, 2012, 63-year-old Larry Kenneth Allen was injured in what appeared to be a fall in the 1400 block of Beverly Drive. Since the injuries appeared to be accidental, police did not respond to the scene.

Allen died at WakeMed five days later. Raleigh police received a tip on that date that Allen's injuries stemmed from an assault, not from an accident. An autopsy was performed, and Allen's death was determined to be a homicide.

Another tip Wednesday led to an arrest in the case. Detectives have charged 24-year-old Teddy Ray Melvin Jr. with murder in connection with Allen's death.

Melvin was taken into custody, and is currently being held at the Wake County Detention Center.

Police say the crime was not a random act.

The investigation continues.
