Man found shot at Fayetteville hotel

Police say a man found with severe gunshot wounds in a hotel parking lot has died and they're looking for his alleged killer.

Just before 10:45 p.m. Monday, officers were called to the Inn Keeper Hotel in the 1700 block of Skibo Road across from Cross Creek Mall about a shooting.

When officers arrived, they found 31-year-old Benny Lamar Fields unconscious with wounds to in his chest and back.

Fields was taken to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center in critical condition. Police said he died Tuesday.

Later Tuesday, detectives announced they have obtained a first-degree murder warrant for 25-year-old Lonnie Edward Johnson Jr.
