ABC11 has learned that officials with the Fort Bragg Civilian Workers Union have apparently been warned that over 200 civilian positions at Womack Army Medical Center may be cut beginning in February 2014.
The expected cuts at Womack are budget related, not furloughs. They are reduction in force layoffs.
A spokesperson for Womack Army Medical Center said she was unaware of any proposed civilian reduction in force.
However, in the local American Federation of Government Employees newsletter last month, union members were warned to be prepared for job cuts as early as this November in Garrison command, and at Womack Medical Center in 2014 as well.
Meanwhile, thousands of civilian employees at Fort Bragg got the word that their furloughs will come to an end in the next week or two.
Many like Tiffany Lawson are glad to learn they will soon be getting a full paycheck again. Lawson says the past five or six weeks she and her family have really struggled with a 20 percent pay cut.
"You really don't expect to be a couple hundred dollars short on your pay. You don't expect it so no you can't prepare. Even though I was prepared, I wasn't prepared," said Lawson. "I have children. So vacation with the children, tax free weekend couldn't do that, because you don't have the extra money. Stuff like that I mean I am not going to dwell on it, but that's what you give up."
