A man is facing charges after he allegedly locked a woman in a barn and tried to sexually assault her, then later stole her purse.

Authorities said the incident happened on Sunday during a party in the 1700 block of Harris Street in Goldsboro.

An investigation revealed that 68-year-old Roland Whitley held a 28-year-old LaGrange, North Carolina woman against her will in a barn behind his home and attempted to sexually assault her.

Authorities said the woman was able to escape using a screwdriver and ran off with a bottle of liquor belonging to Whitley.

Whitley reportedly went after the woman in his vehicle and confronted her down the street about taking his alcohol.

The woman told officials that when she attempted to give Whitley his liquor back, he pushed her down and drove off with the liquor and her purse.

Authorities later arrested Whitley at his home on 1st-degree kidnapping, attempted 2nd-degree sexual offense, and larceny from the person.

He was taken to the Wayne County Magistrate's Office and placed in the Wayne County Jail under a $50,000 bond.
