Rabid fox discovered in Apex

APEX, N.C.

Wake County Animal Control says tests confirmed that a rabid fox was found in the area of Rhodes and Ten-Ten Road.

A dog was exposed to the fox. However, health officials say the dog was up to date on its rabies vaccination and only required a booster shot.

"We don't want to alarm residents in Apex, but they should be aware of these cases and of the potential for exposure to themselves, family members and their pets," said Sue Lynn Ledford, Community Health director for Wake County.

Anyone who sees an animal acting in an unusual manner is urged to call Wake County Animal Control at (919) 212-7387.
