Arrest made in fatal shooting at Fayetteville hotel

FAYETTEVILLE

Lonnie Edward Johnson turned himself into authorities. He is charged with first-degree murder of 31-year-old Benny Lamar Fields.

Police responded to the hotel on Skibo Road just before 10:45 p.m. on Monday. When they arrived, they found Fields unconscious in the parking lot with severe gunshot wounds to his chest and back.

Fields was taken to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center and died Tuesday.

Detectives are still searching for a gold Lincoln LS with the North Carolina license plate BCY-8895. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Fayetteville Department's Homicide Unit at (910) 433-1856.
