Bragg soldiers offered truck training

FORT BRAGG, N.C.

The program is a collaboration between a number of groups, and it started a couple of years ago with a White House initiative to make sure new veterans and their spouses could find work.

The training at Fort Bragg is done through the Johnston Community College and their trucking school. The DOT has ensured the funding, so that it is no cost to the soldiers and spouses. The courses include classroom instruction and hands-on driving experience

The DMV has also enabled some of the students to forego some of the skills training for the CDL based on the skill set they bring with them from the military. And then, through the North Carolina Trucking Association, graduates find out who's hiring for the 5,000 trucking jobs available in North Carolina right now.
