82nd Airborne Division paratrooper drowns

A Fort Bragg soldier drowned over the weekend.

The military says 21-year-old Pvt. Jordan Miles was swimming at White Lake on Saturday when he went under.

The incident remains under investigation.

Miles was a paratrooper with the 82nd Airborne Division.

Miles, of Longview, Texas, was an intelligence analyst with Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 1st Brigade Combat Team.

"Pvt. Miles was an exceptional paratrooper and an integral member of our team." said Lt. Col. Mark S. Childress, Miles' battalion commander. "Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends, we will never forget him"

Miles' awards and decorations include the Army Commendation Medal, the Army Good Conduct Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the Army Service Ribbon and the Parachutist Badge.
