Someone in Cary matched all five white balls on their Powerball ticket in Wednesday's drawing and has 180 days to claim the $1 million prize. The winning ticket, which beat odds of 1 in 5.1 million, was sold at the Grocery Boy Jr. on Kildaire Farm Road.
The winning white ball numbers were 2-9-26-45-47.
Just a few minutes later, a Cash 5 ticket sold at the Hasty Mart on Miller Chapel Road in Goldsboro matched all five numbers in the drawing to win the $568,550 jackpot. The winning numbers for the drawing are 18-24-25-27-30. The player beat odds of 1 in 575,757 to win the jackpot.
As of June 2013, the lottery has raised more than $2.9 billion to support education programs. Lottery dollars support teachers' salaries in grades K-3, school construction and repair projects, prekindergarten programs for at-risk four-year-olds, college scholarships and financial aid based on need and digital learning initiatives.
