Chapel Hill school library closed for mold cleanup

CHAPEL HILL, N.C.

This week, school staff discovered that mold had started to grow on the spines of leather-bound books in the school's media center. Prior to the start of school, the district hired contractors to clean mold from rooms that had experienced flooding and high humidity levels.

Crews will come back to the school to clean the shelves and library books. Work will be performed during non-school hours. The school system says the work will take about a week and they will close the library as a safety precaution.

To help prevent a reoccurrence, the school is temporarily running boilers and the air conditioning system to help keep humidity levels low.

The school admits that is not a good long term approach and that the school is in need of significant repairs and renovations.
