Hurricanes assistant general manager ousted

The Carolina Hurricanes announced Sunday that Executive Vice President and Assistant General Manager Jason Karmanos has been relieved of his duties with the team.

Karmanos had served as Carolina's assistant general manager for 15 years. He is the son of Hurricanes owner and CEO Peter Karmanos.

The Hurricanes said Karmanos' duties will be assumed by Vice President of Hockey Operations Ron Francis and Video Scout/Hockey Operations Assistant Darren Yorke.

The Carolina Hurricanes open their 2013-14 season on Oct. 4 at PNC Arena against the Detroit Red Wings.
