Fifteenth rabies case confirmed in Fayetteville

FAYETTEVILLE

Health officials say a bat was picked up on Forest Creek Drive Monday.

Seven individuals living in the home where the bat was found may have been exposed; they have been advised to seek medical attention.

The Animal Control Enforcement Division is conducting a neighborhood sweep to notify residents of the rabies case.

"A bat indoors can bite people in their sleep without them feeling it," said Animal Control Director Dr. John Lauby. A dog in the home was vaccinated against rabies.

This is the fifteenth case of rabies in Cumberland County this year, and the eighth bat.
