Trial date for Shaniya Davis' mother delayed by two weeks

FAYETTEVILLE

A Cumberland County judge moved the start of Antoinette Davis' murder trial to Oct. 28. It was scheduled to begin Oct. 14.

Davis is accused of selling her five-year-old daughter to Mario McNeill in 2009 to settle a drug debt.

McNeill was convicted earlier this year of murdering the little girl and sentenced to death.

Davis is charged with first-degree murder, human trafficking of a child, and felony child abuse/prostitution.

Shaniya Davis disappeared from her mother's mobile home in Fayetteville in November 2009. Her body was found a few days later in a wooded area near the Harnett and Lee County lines.

Prosecutors have said they will not seek the death penalty for Davis, if she's convicted.

Her trial is expected to last four to six weeks.
