Rabies alert in Wake County

RALEIGH, N.C.

The animal was found the vicinity Beehnon Way and Tryon Pines Drive north of Lake Wheeler.

"We don't want to alarm residents in Raleigh, but they should be aware of these cases and of the potential for exposure to themselves, family members and their pets," said Sue Lynn Ledford, Community Health director for Wake County. "Do not approach an animal that you don't know."

It's important to make sure pets are vaccinated so they're not at risk of getting the disease.
