Raleigh builds dream playground for all ages

RALEIGH

KaBOOM!, a national non-profit organization that has built more than 2,300 playgrounds, organized the event where more than 150 volunteers from around the community joined together to construct two play spaces from start to finish in one day. The goal was to work to rejuvenate the play area for both kids and their caregivers and bring new life to the community.

The customized playground, funded primarily by leading health and wellness company Humana, was created with personal drawings and input from local community members-ranging in ages from 6 to 60- and was built in less than six hours.

The playground includes play areas for both kids and seniors; two demographics with limited opportunities and areas where they can get physical activity.

The project hopes to have created a unique area where families can exercise and have picnics and get-togethers for years to come.

Raleigh will not be alone in this initiative. Disney, ABC11 will team up with KaBOOM!, City of Durham, Keep Durham Beautiful and hundreds of volunteers on November 2, 2013 to transform the Oakwood Avenue park behind the ABC11 Durham station into a beautiful new playground.
